NYU Partner in Care
Brooklyn orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel Kaplan is a leading team member of the Sports division of the prestigious NYU Langone Orthopedics department.
The NYU Department of Orthopedics has a historic legacy, tracing its origins to the 19th century through its long-term association with what is now NYC Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Lewis Albert Sayre was appointed professor of orthopedic surgery, fractures, and dislocations at Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1853. This marked the first professorship of orthopedic surgery in North America. He is considered the Godfather of American Orthopedics, as he first trained many of those that would go on to establish Orthopedic departments throughout the country.
Bellevue Hospital Medical College later merged with University Medical College of NYU to become the NYU School of Medicine in 1898. The Hospital for Joint Diseases, now NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, opened in 1905.
Today, NYU Langone Orthopedics is among the international leaders in musculoskeletal care. It has consistently been ranked in the top 5 for Orthopedic care by U.S. News and World Report and was most recently #4 in 2023.
NYU Langone Orthopedics is also at the forefront of musculoskeletal innovation. It is currently ranked #8 in the country for research funding through the NIH. It is also routinely among the most, or the most, productive academic orthopedic department in the nation in terms of papers published.
Dr. Kaplan is honored to be a member of this historic Orthopedic institution.
